The Onmyoji is the flagship Far Shore class that is far from a simple conjurer or a fragile minion-master hiding behind disposable pets. It is a deeply structured, balance-driven summoner class built around partnership, precision, and spiritual authority. This class is one that stands apart from every existing 5e summoning archetype in both mechanics and philosophy.
Inspired by the historic practice of Onmyōdō and legends such as Abe no Seimei, this class honors the true roots of the title: scholar-mystics who commanded spirits, interpreted celestial patterns, and shaped reality through seals, talismans, and ritualized magic. The Onmyoji is a deliberate, systematized discipline that reflects both historical reverence and modern tabletop design mechs.
This class has a deep Shikigami creation system with customizable attacks, passive traits, and special abilities which scale with the Onmyoji’s level. These Shikigami act independently in combat without overshadowing the player and progress through meaningful bond upgrades instead of raw static power. The Onmyoji is also and battlefield controller whose reality-altering seals reshape combat without overpowering the game. Its talisman-based spellcasting and ritual-driven magics reflect the disciplined philosophy of true Onmyōdō.
The Onmyoji includes three distinct subclasses, or Onmyōdō paths:
Shikigami Onmyōdō: Empowering the Onmyoji's Shikigami magics and bonds
Elemental Onmyōdō: Focuses on the Godai elements for high-impact offensive magic
Barrier Seals Onmyōdō: Uses dimensional magics to control the battlefield and has powerful out-of-combat utility
Each path offers a distinctly different tactical focus, expanding replayability without diluting the class’s identity. The class also features a dedicated spell list and a full Shikigami creation system, along with Far Shore–exclusive new and altered spells, and integrated curse and possession mechanics delivered through an accompanying PDF.
